The NICHES project concluded on 31 May 2025. While project activities have ended, this website will remain available for at least 5 years after its completion, providing access to the project information, publications and results.
Nature’s integration in cities’ hydrologies, ecologies and societies
Vision
NICHES aims to become a reference for nature-based transformations of urban social-ecological-technical water systems. Through the development of holistic scientific approaches considering multifunctionality, resilience and justice, NICHES will contribute to more resilient and healthy aquatic landscapes.
Mission
NICHES will demonstrate the capacity of nature-based solutions to mitigate stormwater runoff, flooding and sewer overflow events and highlight transformation pathways to deliver this potential. The project will simultaneously enhance social-ecological qualities and ecosystem services at source and in receiving water bodies.
